From 2003 through 2009 participants in the Swedish Mammography Cohort below age 85 years and living in the town of Uppsala were randomly selected and invited to participate in a clinical subcohort. Samples of fasting blood, urine, fecal sample and adipose tissue were also collected at the health exam.

A subset of the women visiting the clinic completed additional food and physical activity  questionnaires in addition to wearing a physical activity monitor and complete a 7-day activity record. A second subset of women visiting the clinic completed a questionnaire on sun exposure in conjunction with a blood sample collected both during winter and summer months.
